What is the Air Quality Index?
The Air Quality Index (AQI) is an indicator of the level of pollution in the air. It considers the presence of polluting agents in the air, their concentration, and the length of exposure. Combining these components allows us to assign a value known as the Air Quality Index.
Knowing the AQI allows you to know how polluted the air is and how this affects your health. The higher the number, the worse it is. The index uses a scale of 0 to 500, with 500 indicating extremely polluted air and 0 showing good air quality.
For most people, bad air quality is associated with coughing, sneezing, and watery eyes. At higher concentrations, outdoor pollution can become a serious health risk as it can irritate the lungs and cause respiratory diseases. It can make asthma worse and cause lung cancer, among other respiratory diseases.
When it comes to indoor pollutants such as mold and dust mites, they are a risk factor for respiratory diseases such as asthma in children, seniors, and people with existing respiratory conditions.
Developed by US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), its purpose is to inform the general population about current levels of pollution in their region so that they are aware of when to avoid outdoor activity to protect their health. The index also helps policy makers to determine when it is necessary to take action to reduce air pollution levels.
But what if we could predict what kind of pollution we will find in our city in real time? What if we did not have to go online or open an app every time we wanted to check? Would it be useful for you? Without a doubt! It would be very useful for you because you believe us that it could be very useful for your health, your family’s health and your employees’ health too!
But also for your company’s well-being because your workers don’t have to be at high risk in front of dangerous pollutants that can affect their health. It would also allow you to plan your performances depending on what pollutants affect your area at different times of the year or on specific days of the week.
