The presentations are linked to the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and of course, Qualcomm is present at this event. The American company took the opportunity to unveil its future connectivity solutions, which will equip our future smartphones.
And among these solutions, there is Wifi 7. If you haven't heard of it yet, that's normal since this new specification for Wifi has not yet been finalized by the Wifi Alliance, the organization that governs technology.
While Wifi 6E is still in its infancy, Qualcomm is already talking about Wifi 7
And yet, Qualcomm has already announced the arrival of Wifi 7 on its future products. While many devices don't yet have Wifi 6E, Qualcomm is introducing its new connectivity solution, Qualcomm FastConnect 7800, which will include Wifi 7.
“Previous generations of FastConnect offered industry-leading connectivity, whether on mobile, compute or XR platforms, and FastConnect 7800 continues that legacy of superior connectivity. We are championing the industry's transition to Wi-Fi 7 by bringing to market the first Wi-Fi 7 connectivity system and enabling the fastest and most responsive Wi-Fi speeds in the industry,” says a company statement.
According to Qualcomm, its FastConnect 7800 solution will provide the world's fastest Wi-Fi speed, with a peak speed of 5.8 Gbps, which represents a 60% increase in speed over the previous generation . The company also mentions an effort with regard to latency, which would be less than two milliseconds.
Qualcomm has also improved the quality of the Bluetooth connection
Moreover, this solution does not only include Wifi 7. In terms of Bluetooth connection, FastConnect 7800 will also allow a significant improvement in the experience.
It incorporates Bluetooth 5.3, as well as a new technology called Dual Bluetooth. According to Qualcomm, thanks to this, users will be able to listen to music in “CD” quality on their headphones. Pairing is twice as fast, and Qualcomm says it's cut Bluetooth's power consumption in half.
At this time, it is not known which products will use this technology. But Qualcomm says FastConnect 7800 will be available from the second half of 2022.
Your next smartphone could have a processor that exclusively takes care of optimizing the 5G connection
For 5G, Qualcomm has also just presented its new solution for mobiles: the Snapdragon X70 modem. This is the fifth generation of 5G modems from Qualcomm, since the arrival of this technology in 2019. And its particularity is that the chip is equipped with an AI processor.
“The Snapdragon X70's 5G AI processor includes the Qualcomm 5G AI suite. The suite offers innovative new AI-powered technologies that can improve 5G data speeds, coverage, latency and power efficiency for 5G Sub-6 GHz and mmWave devices,” says Qualcomm. The energy efficiency gain of this component dedicated to 5G can reach up to 60%.
The first devices using this new 5G modem should be available before the end of the year.
