At its Discover 2022 user event, HPE presented new cloud services for HPE GreenLake, including an offer to operate private cloud environments like a public cloud. […]
The core of the announcements is the "Private Cloud Enterprise" offer. Ultimately, this should enable companies to operate a private cloud in the way they are used to from public cloud environments, as Vishal Lall, who is responsible for GreenLake Cloud Services Solutions at HPE, describes the concept during a virtual media event.
The problem for many companies is that a lot of local IT data is trapped in silos that cannot be moved to the cloud, explains Flynn Maloy, head of HPE GreenLake Cloud Services. "With the new offer we want to bring the cloud to the company data," says Maloy consequently.
HPE GreenLake for Private Cloud Enterprise is therefore designed for both cloud-native and traditional applications and includes a modular infrastructure and software that can provide workloads for physical servers, virtual machines and containers.
Other new cloud services
In addition to the private cloud offer, HPE has promised a number of other GreenLake services, such as for backups or for restoring IT after failures. In detail these are:
HPE GreenLake for Data Fabric: This is a managed service designed to simplify data analysis for enterprises. HPE GreenLake for HCI (Hyperconverged Infrastructure) provides cloud operations with a SaaS-based interface for virtual machines (VMs) and infrastructure management in a hybrid cloud environmentHPE GreenLake for Disaster Recovery: Designed to enable enterprise users to bring their IT back to the seconds before a disruption—whether from ransomware, outages, or natural disasters—in minutes, HPE Backup and Recovery Service provides a backup solution for public -Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud offerings, specifically for Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) instances and Amazon Elastic Block Storage (EBS) storage units. With the HPE solution, users should be able to protect their VMs in three simple steps and in less than five minutes. According to HPE, this eliminates the complexity of joint management and the simultaneous operation of backup hardware, software and cloud infrastructure. HPE GreenLake for Block Storage: According to HPE, this is the industry's first block storage as a service Provide HPE with unified server management from the computing edge to the cloud.
Hardware for cloud providers
But HPE does not only want to show off with services in the cloud sector. The company also showed hardware for corresponding providers. Specifically, the server series "HPE ProLiant RL Gen11" was presented. This is equipped with Ampere Altra and Altra Max processors and is aimed at cloud providers and companies that want to operate their own cloud environments.
The servers have a socket for 128 cores and should be available from the third quarter of 2022.
Red Hat joins the GreenLake "ecosystem."
HPE Maloy classifies the expanded partnership as a more intensive effort in the "joint art of engineering" to develop new solutions.
