The Ecovacs Deebot T9 AIVI is the only model in the T9 series with an integrated camera. This enables automatic obstacle detection with artificial intelligence and can also monitor your home when you are away. However, if desired, the robot can also be operated completely without a camera. Because the AIVI has another feature in store that makes this model unique.

Proven design
The Ecovacs Deebot T9 AIVI convinces with a simple, matt black design. Only the laser tower is decorated with a silver Ecovacs logo and a subtle metal border. Next to the elevation for the laser is the only visible button: a power button. Further operation is via the Ecovacs app.
The on/off switch, a small cleaning brush and the dust container are hidden under the lid. This offers a below-average capacity of 300 milliliters. Pet owners in particular have to go to the trash can more often. Alternatively, Ecovacs also offers an automatic emptying station for the Deebot T9 AIVI.

App and setup
Setting up with the free Ecovacs app is quick and easy. You scan the QR code under the lid of the robot and are then guided through illustrated instructions. After a few minutes, the robot is ready for use.
When cleaning for the first time, it is recommended to open all the doors and remove obstacles, since a map of the apartment is made in the first pass. The robot tries to recognize individual rooms, which works more or less well depending on the floor plan of the apartment. You can then manually touch up and name the rooms.
The structure of the app is very well thought out. You can see the map on the start page and can start a complete cleaning with one click or select individual rooms or areas for cleaning. With a swipe up you open an overview with all cleaning parameters such as suction power, thoroughness or water delivery quantity.
Design-wise, however, the app could use a little more love. The created map cannot be rotated and the design does not match the rest of the iOS or Android look.
Brand new with the Deebot T9 AIVI is a 3D view. Here you can view a 3D floor plan of your home and even add furniture to it. While the robot drives through your apartment, you can also follow it in the 3D view. In our test, creating the 3D map didn't work that well. So all the rooms on the map were combined into one large room. However, the whole thing is still more of a gimmick than a useful control element. But maybe Ecovacs has more plans for it in the future and the foundation for this has at least been laid now.
Navigation and obstacle detection in the test
The Ecovacs Deebot T9 AIVI uses a lidar sensor to orient itself in the room. This laser-based technology is very precise and worked reliably in the test. In addition, there are some distance sensors and a front bumper to avoid hitting chair legs too quickly or falling off stairs. We didn't notice any problems with the navigation during our test. Even in complete darkness, the robot can easily find its way around the apartment and can even distinguish between several floors.
The camera for automatic obstacle detection
The navigation is supplemented by automatic obstacle detection. This can detect smaller, temporary obstacles. So you don't have to clean up every time before you can start the vacuum robot. However, in our test scenario with a car, socks, shoes and a smartphone charging cable, not all objects were recognized and avoided. The newer models from Ecovacs, such as the Deebot X1, work more precisely here.
In addition, sufficient light is required for automatic obstacle detection. In contrast to some models from Roborock or iRobot, the Ecovacs T9 AIVI is not equipped with its own headlight.
The integrated camera can also be used to take a look inside your own home when you are away. You can also set checkpoints and have the vacuum robot patrol the apartment automatically.
The Ecovacs Deebot T9 AIVI vacuums so well
The Ecovacs Deebot T9 AIVI relies on cutting-edge technology for the suction and wiping function. The manufacturer relies on a combination of two side brushes and two innovative main brushes.
The two main brushes are made of silicone with soft fins and rotate in opposite directions. In this way, both fine dust and heavy crumbs can be picked up perfectly. By not using normal bristles, you also prevent long hair from getting wrapped around the brushes and having to be removed manually.
The Ecovacs Deebot T9 AIVI from below
Together with the reliable navigation, the Ecovacs Deebot T9 AIVI cleans our apartment perfectly in the test and up to the edges of furniture and walls. Due to the relatively small dust container, however, you have to empty it relatively regularly. Alternatively, you can opt for an automatic emptying station.
Ecovacs professional mopping function
For wiping, Ecovacs supplies the second version of the proven Ozmo-Pro wiping module. As with its predecessor, this one continues to deliver the best wiping result in a vacuum and floor mopping robot.
Due to the low weight, vacuum robots can only exert slight pressure on the floor. Most models therefore only pull a damp cloth behind them to pick up fine dust. They cannot cope with stains and ingrained dirt. With Ozmo-Pro, Ecovacs has found a solution to this problem.
To compensate for the missing weight, the Ozmo-Pro mopping module vibrates over the floor at up to 480 movements per minute. This technique is comparable to an electric toothbrush. As a result, the Ecovacs Deebot T9 AIVI can easily cope with stubborn dirt in most cases.
The Ozmo-Pro Mopping Module (front) and Placeholder (back)
The Ozmo-Pro mopping module is a detachable accessory and comes with the Deebot T9 AIVI. To start the wiping function, the placeholder on the robot must be removed and the professional wiping module plugged in. Beforehand, a washable microfiber cloth is attached to the Ozmo-Pro and the water tank is filled. The 180 milliliters are enough for around 90 square meters in our test. However, this information can vary depending on the selected water delivery volume. Even wiping with detergent is possible. Ecovacs recommends the floor cleaner from botClean for this.
Conclusion: the price makes the difference
Even though the Ecovacs Deebot T9 AIVI is around a year and a half old, it still offers high-end equipment. Vacuum robots have significantly longer life cycles than smartphones and can still be used without any problems even after a few years.
The Ecovacs T9 AIVI delivers first-class results when it comes to vacuuming and mopping – the core tasks of a vacuum and mopping robot. The suction result is convincing thanks to well thought-out brushes and the supplied Ozmo-Pro wiping module delivers an unbeatably good result when wiping. In addition, the app is functionally top and easy to use. Only the design could be improved.
You only have to make real compromises when it comes to obstacle detection. Here, the current generation offers better detection rates thanks to a new camera system. But the significantly lower price makes up for it. The Deebot T9 AIVI is currently available for just over 500 euros. That's 200 euros less than the T10 – which also doesn't have the AeroForce silicone brushes.
Promotion: The Deebot T9 AIVI is on sale at Amazon until June 30, 2022. Here it costs 469 euros instead of 599 euros – so there is a discount of 130 euros.
