Front loader up or down when driving on the road?
But there are other rules to be aware of with front loaders on the road. Martin Vaupel explains: "The problem is the parts that are hazardous to traffic. These are, for example, the sharp edges on the shovel. If you drive with the front loader in the lower position, parts that are hazardous to traffic must be secured. Then the scraping edge and all other sharp parts must be protected with edge protection covered, as is often the case with wheel loaders. And the parts that are hazardous to traffic must be marked with warning signs, for example."
Front loaders on the road: identify and cover dangerous parts
In practice, the tractor with the front loader is often moved and the warning signs and covers must always be there. But there is also the option of driving the front loader in the upper position. Martin Vaupel says: "Everything that is more than 2 m above the roadway is no longer considered a traffic-endangering part and then it does not have to be secured and also not marked."
Do not exceed the dimensions of the front end with the front loader
Anyone who drives a tractor and a front loader must either cover and mark the endangered parts or lift the front loader at least 2 m above the road surface. But there are other rules that govern the use of front loaders on the road. The stem dimension from the center of the steering wheel to the foremost point of the vehicle must not exceed 3.5 m.

The dimensions of the front end can quickly be exceeded by the front loader and attached tools, since the protruding tines of bale forks, for example, are also included. If the dimensions of the front end are exceeded, a guide is required at blind spots and crossings. However, there are now camera systems as technical aids that eliminate the restricted field of view.
