The new annual expansion, The Witch Queen, launched worldwide today for Destiny 2 with Season of the Risen.
Today Bungie released the latest chapter in the Destiny franchise, Destiny 2: The Witch Queen, available on all platforms at 6:00 p.m. The Witch Queen is the first installment in the final trilogy of Destiny 2's Light and Darkness saga, in which Guardians must discover powerful new abilities and face extraordinary challenges in order to protect the solar system from the enemies of mankind.
Along with the launch of the expansion, a new season full of new content will be released today with the Season of the Risen.
Both The Witch-Queen and Season of the Risen expansions follow Guardians in their quest to reclaim the Light from the Hive goddess Savathûn. After more than a year of deceptions by the Witch Queen, Guardians finally join the fight against Savathûn and explore the mysterious new Destiny 2 destination, The Throneworld.
There they meet countless challenges, including the onslaught of the Radiant Spawn – Hive enemies who now wield the same Light-given powers the Guardians have harnessed for centuries.
In Season of the Risen, Guardians harness light-suppressing technology gained through a strained alliance with the Cabal Empress Caiatl to face the Witch-Queen's growing army of Light-infested hosts.
The World First Raid Race starts on March 5th
Shortly after the release of The Witch-Queen expansion for Destiny 2, Bungie introduces the latest Raid – a challenging, pinnacle Destiny activity for six seasoned Wardens who must not only possess martial skills, but also work collaboratively and overcome seemingly impossible challenges.
The Apprentice's Oath raid will be available to The Witch Queen owners on March 5th at 7pm PDT. With the launch of the raid, a global competition will also begin to crown the first fireteam in the world to complete the raid.
The successful fireteam will receive a unique World First title belt for each fireteam member and, of course, the glory that comes with the World First title. The winning team will be officially announced in the days following the raid.
Destiny 2: The Witch Queen
Savathûn's deception has been exposed and the Keepers prepare for a showdown with the Witch-Queen to face her Light-enhanced armies and fight to reclaim the Light.
The Radiant Spawn: Savathûn bestowed upon her soldiers the power of light. Guardians will now fight enemies that resurrect, use powerful (and familiar) Supers, and more.
Weapon Crafting: Wardens use deep vision to create and upgrade a variety of powerful weapons. Mastering the system will allow them to create custom weapons with unique combinations of shaders, mods, and advanced stat pools.
The Glaive: A formidable first-person melee weapon that delivers full power up close and at range. This new weapon type can also use an energy shield for defense.
The Throne World: The new Destiny 2 destination, The Throne World, is the center of Savathûn's power – a treacherous wonderland of corruption and splendor. In this place, Guardians seek the truth and learn that there are secrets in both darkness and light.
Wellspring: A new 6-player matchmade activity at the heart of an ongoing struggle for the World of Thrones.
New Raid – The Apprentice's Oath: In the swamps of Savathûn's throne world lies a sunken pyramid. Guardians must gather their fireteam and face an ancient threat.

Season of the Risen
The new season of Destiny, Season of the Risen begins on February 22 and players can start earning new Season Ranks right away. This season, Guardians work with the Cabal Empress Caiatl to thwart Savathûn's plans and defy the light-bearing Radiant Host that threatens humanity and the solar system. The season includes:
Psi-Ops Battlegrounds: Guardians seek out and apprehend high-ranking Lieutenants of the Radiant Host throughout the solar system. With the help of Caiatl's best psions, players enter the spirit room, a place where thoughts about reality reveal themselves. Players must battle through the Horde and defeat Savathûn's lieutenants to triumph.
Seasonal Artifact – Synaptic Spear: Players use the spear's light suppression, powered by Caiatl's technology, to penetrate the Hive Guardians' minds and sever their connection to the Light. As the spear level increases, they gain access to powerful new mods and can further customize their playstyle.
Exotic Quest: Guardians investigate anti-Caiatl psionic propaganda spread from a bunker on Mars, unlocking the Dead Messenger Exotic Grenade Launcher. This waveform breechloading grenade launcher creates a series of three shockwaves and can rotate between different elemental damage types while reloading, similar to other exotics such as Hard Light and Borealis.
The new Void 3.0 updates will be available to all Destiny 2 players and will be released alongside The Witch Queen expansion and Season of the Risen. The latest elemental power upgrade in Destiny 2 adds aspects and fragments to Void subclasses, similar to the Stasis subclasses in Beyond Light.
