Our goal is to help devs integrate the API into their applications fastly and easily. We develop tutorials, sample code and libraries for the most popular programming languages so that you don´t have to reinvent the wheel. If you are looking to code in Python, you are in the right place. Read on to learn more about it.
Python is a high-level programming language that is easy to learn but also very powerful, and is one of the most popular languages for web development. It was created in the late 80s by Guido van Rossum, who derived it from the ABC language (which had been created by Guy Steele and Wally Baker some years before). A implementation of this language is standard with many operating systems (Windows, Linux, Mac OS) which makes it very popular among developers since they don’t need to install anything in order to start working with this language.
As a scripting language, python code is interpreted at runtime by the Python interpreter instead of being compiled into machine code. This makes Python much more interactive than other popular programming languages like Java or C++, allowing you to run your program and see the results immediately whilst writing it rather than having to compile it and then run it. This is great for prototyping and experimenting with new ideas, as well as for small programs (when you don’t have to worry about compilation time) or where speed isn’t the most important factor. It also supports object-oriented programming (OOP), which means that each object has its own characteristics and methods that interact with other objects also possess their own characteristics and methods. This helps prevent code duplication.
Being an interpreted language also means that Python programs can be read and understood easily by a human reader without any effort, making it a perfect language for beginners. The downside is that this makes it slower than compiled languages like C or C++; this disadvantage can be partially mitigated by compiling Python programs into bytecode before execution and caching bytecode files between runs, but this is rarely done in practice.
There are several implementations of Python available; the most widespread are CPython – which is the default interpreter shipped with every major Linux distribution – and PyPy (a jit-compiler) which are both written in C and use an abstract syntax tree that can be compiled into native machine code at runtime on platforms where it is available, such as x86/Linux or ARM/Linux. The latter implementation has been known to reach speeds comparable to Java.
