What is Node.JS? Node.js is a cross-platform technology that allows us to create scalable software applications. From small scripts to large applications, we can create all of them in JavaScript, while taking advantage of the underlying operating system. Its primary goal is to create software that can run in various operating systems and environments such as the browser.
It was created in 2009 by a group of developers working at Joyent as part of the JavaScript revolution, which marked a paradigm shift in the use of this language for the creation of complex software applications. It was born to create web applications using JavaScript, which had already acquired a very strong following and was used by websites such as Google Maps or Gmail.
For this purpose, Node.js used the single-threaded event loop programming model, which guarantees a better parallelism and concurrency compared to other programming languages such as Java or C#, enabling multiple requests to be processed at the same time. This characteristic allows us to build fast and scalable software with a relatively small footprint on the server.
